Staff Profile: Julie, Community Engagement Facilitator

After a long management career in the healthcare industry, Julie was ready for a change. She wanted to find a part-time role that would make a meaningful contribution to the community.

When she saw that Bethany House was looking for a Community Engagement Facilitator, she knew immediately that it was the right opportunity.

Julie’s management background helps her juggle the various duties of the role, including:

  • Helping with outreach activities such as resource fairs and community events
  • Coordinating volunteer opportunities
  • Recruiting, screening, training and supervising volunteers
  • Assisting in organizational communications
  • Engaging with community agencies serving marginalized and under-served populations

The wide scope might be overwhelming to some, but Julie makes it all look effortless.

What excites you about the mission?

I love what we are doing to help those who have been affected by domestic violence, and we have an incredible staff to carry out this work! I’m excited that I can help this cause by working with our caring donors and volunteers on a daily basis.

How does your background impact your work at Bethany House?

Bethany House is about connecting with and meeting the needs of our residents as individuals. I’ve engaged with individuals from all walks of life and understand that we each have unique and valuable qualities that are worthy of embracing.

What is a 2024 goal you are most excited to work on?

I’ve met so many wonderful volunteers and donors, who are so important to carrying out the work at Bethany House. I am excited to continue to expand those relationships in 2024.

What is the biggest challenge those we serve are facing in 2024?

Survivors of domestic violence often have limited options to access the services they need, such as safe housing, trauma-informed legal services, and transportation just to name a few. Bethany House works hard to put our residents in contact with services that we don’t provide directly, but we always have a waiting list of survivors waiting to get into our program.
