Board Profile: Will, Board of Trustees

While he lived in St. Louis, Will Tunis served on the board of an organization with a mission similar to that of Bethany House.

After moving back to this area, Will attended an event at Lourdes University and met one of our board members, Tina Jindal.

“We had discussed areas of need and how I could get involved,” he said. “She brought up Bethany House and it just felt right.”

Understanding the critical nature of the organization’s services, Will expressed his interest in joining the board and he became our newest board member in 2024.

What excites you about the mission?

The focus of Bethany House is so much more than just a shelter.

The programs and resources offered to our families include counseling, financial literacy and more to help change the cycle that the victims have endured and put them on a path to take control of their futures.

How does your background impact your work at Bethany House?

I’ve worked in various forms of finance for many years, so I’ll be able to give guidance on some aspects of that as needed, but what I’m really hoping to do is support in other ways. I feel I’d be an asset by getting out into the community in order to bring awareness to those not directly affected by DV and show how they can help.

What is a 2024 goal you are most excited to work on?

I’m really looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and jumping in whenever and wherever I can. I hope to be an asset by discussing the mission with those who are not familiar with Bethany House.

What is the biggest challenge those we serve are facing in 2024?

I feel that domestic violence is becoming much more pervasive in our society. Economic stressors and mental health challenges are a few reasons for this trend. Facilities and services are in short supply relative to the need, making it more difficult to get assistance.
