After her husband passed away, Gretchen was looking for an outlet to put her free time to good use and channel her grief in a positive way. She thought serving on a nonprofit board would be a good fit and put out a call on social media to find opportunities.
An old friend of hers, Charla Ulrich, was just finishing her time on the Bethany House board and recommended Gretchen as a new member. The rest, as they say, is history.
An accountant by trade, Gretchen served as a general board member for a short period of time. When the finance position on the board opened up, Gretchen was asked to step in and she graciously accepted.
Coming from a family of women (two aunts, two sisters and two daughters), Gretchen was always drawn to the importance of the work surrounding women’s issues. Since joining the board, she has been blessed with two granddaughters, further igniting her passion to empower this new generation.
Bethany House is a wonderful organization that helps to empower women, particularly those who are facing difficult situations.
I’ve worked in finance in a variety of industries over the years, so I’m able to put those skills to use and provide the organization with sound fiduciary guidance.
I’m most excited to work on new funding opportunities that will help us continue to offer valuable services to the vulnerable women we serve.
The current economy presents a few challenges. In this tight labor market, retaining our incredible staff and ensuring they’re fairly compensated is a top priority. At the same time, we’re working to grow our base of generous donors in the face of a slowing economy.
