Brad Grosttefon first got involved with Bethany House in 2016 through a colleague at Bon Secours Mercy Health, Charla Ulrich, who was also a former Bethany House board member.
A career move took him out of the area the following year, which also meant leaving the board. When he came back to Toledo in 2019, he still had a passion for the mission and reached out to Deidra to rejoin the board.
Today, Brad serves as the board treasurer, bringing experience and insight into all things financial, but also thinking creatively about the future of Bethany House and how we can be best positioned to serve survivors in our community,” says executive director Deidra Lashley.
Our focus on restoring hope is inspiring. People come to Bethany at a time of great need after surviving domestic violence. Knowing that Bethany House can provide long term shelter, services for recovery, and then restore hope is so impactful for survivors in our community. It is worth noting that Bethany House provides safe shelter to an average of 30 families a year with over 300,000 nights of safe shelter since 1984.
My professional work is in accounting, finance and business management. This allows me to provide insights with a focus on operations and keep an eye on the financial health of the organization so that Bethany House can continue to do this important work in our community for years to come.
A goal of mine as it relates to Bethany House is to get more involved in fundraising. Without the support of personal and business donations, Bethany House could not provide the needed services to victims of domestic violence. With the current treasurer board terming out, I am excited to fill this important role.
It is alarming that an average of 49 domestic violence calls are made to 911 in Lucas County every day. One of the biggest challenges is meeting the demand of those we serve. There are times when Bethany House has a wait list for the long-term shelter. It is important that as a board and with community partners we work to address these challenges.
