2023 Impact Report

Bethany House’s long-term shelter and advocacy services continue to positively impact the well-being of individuals and families who have experienced domestic violence.

In addition, Bethany House is committed to systems advocacy, which – in the context of domestic violence – involves working to change the policies, practices, and structures within various systems like law enforcement, legal systems, healthcare, and social services to better support survivors and prevent further violence.

Throughout the year, Bethany House staff worked tirelessly to advocate for the rights of survivors individually and systemically.

Beyond efforts to improve our own accessibility for survivors with disabilities through policy development and planned facility renovations, Bethany House staff advocated for survivors involved in the juvenile court system.

Funded by the Justice for Families program grant, Bethany House is collaborating with Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Lucas County Juvenile Court, and the Children’s Rights Collaborative of NWO to provide community training and to improve court processes for cases involving domestic violence.

The Board of Trustees played a crucial role in system advocacy through their strategic oversight and leadership in guiding the organization’s efforts to influence policies, systems, and practices to better support survivors. In 2023, Brad Rieger ended his Board term while Dr. Tina Jindal, George Kral, Quintina Huff, and Carol Rauhut were appointed as new Trustees.

Bethany House staff advocated, in coordination with the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, for additional state funding for domestic violence shelters resulting in a significant increase for the current budget year. 2023 also brought the long-awaited return of the Celebrity Wait Night fundraising event. Diners filled two restaurants and helped to raise more than $53,000. Revenue at year-end was boosted by three sizable estate donations and increased grant funding.

As we move into the next year, we remain committed to our mission to empower survivors of domestic violence and their children by providing long-term transitional shelter and advocacy to maximize safety, ensure access to resources, and restore hope with dignity and respect. We are immensely grateful to all who have contributed their time, resources, and expertise.

Only together can we make a difference.
