We have great news to report! The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation has gifted Bethany House $26,400 to help us further our mission.
This generous grant will directly assist people recovering from domestic violence, particularly those in Bethany’s StepUP program. The families in the StepUP program have gotten back on their feet after domestic violence upended their lives. They have successfully transitioned out of our long-term shelter and into the community or into one of our affordable, secure apartments.
Those survivors have made hard-won progress, but they may still face challenges. Funding from the Foundation means that advocacy services can continue to be robust and better integrated into family plans.
StepUP program coordinator Madison Lawson said, “This grant allows us to provide support that we couldn’t otherwise deliver. Our advocacy helps us ensure our families have housing stability and can continue reaching their goals.” The grant will also cover half of Ms. Lawson’s salary.
StepUP serves about 70 individuals annually with the goal of enhancing the social and emotional well-being of both youth and adult program participants through the outcomes of maximized safety, meaningful access to relevant resources, social connectedness, mastery/self-efficacy, stability/resiliency, and hopefulness.
The John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation is local, based in northwest Ohio, and is dedicated to improving housing stability, food security and youth education. We are so grateful that the Foundation’s goals align with the Bethany House mission and that we can work together to make a lasting impact on local families.

Partnerships like this form a community of care for the families that Bethany House serves. These survivors are protected and nurtured by the generous individuals, businesses and foundations in our region whose combined resources create a vital safety net.
Thank you to everyone who donates supplies to the shelter, buys backpacks for students or provides pots and pans for a family moving into their own apartment. Our special thanks to the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation for this generous and welcome grant.
